"The LaFayette Sun" - November 11, 1903:

Milltown - The death angel unexpectedly came into our community last Wednesday night and bore from its troubled tenement of clay the immortal spirit of Mrs. D. S. B. Abernathy. She leaves a devoted husband and loving relatives and friends to mourn her death.

November 18, 1903:

In Memoriam.

Mrs. Cora Abernathy was born March 24th, 1875, and died November 4, 1903, leaving a grief stricken husband, a host of relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
The happy home where she was born, reared and died is now in gloom. Cora often spoke of dying, and in her last afflictions, said she wasn't afraid to die, and
although not a professed Christian, we feel assured her spirit is at rest. Not only will she be missed in her home, but in her community, and especially by the poor, who received many kind remembrances from her and through no other motive only sweet charity's sake, and while we miss her everywhere, and it seems hard to part with her, let's be comforted with the blessed thought that her poor body will suffer no more pain and her spirit is with God who gave it. Her sorrowing husband has the sympathy of everyone in his great trial, and may the Creator of all comfort him in his sore bereavement is the prayer of one who loved her.
