Hortense Altheimer Bloch was the daughter of Louis Altheimer and Julia Sussholz Altheimer. She was the first wife of the artist Albert J. Bloch, the only American member of the artist group Der Blaue Reiter. Her sons were the linguist Bernard Bloch and the television scriptwriter Walter Bloch (writing as Walter Black).
