Eliza Jane Sawyer
WATERVILLE, March 6 – Graveside services for Eliza Jane Sawyer, 72, were held today at 2 pm at the Waterville cemetery with Rev. L. Dean King officiating. Mrs. Sawyer died in a Stanwood nursing home on Friday. Mr. Sawyer preceded her in death ten days before.
Born in Fall River, California, January 9, 1879, she was married to James Bryan Sawyer on Aug. 20, 1899. They lived in Big Valley, California, until 1904 when they came to Washington, settling on a farm in Douglas county. They lived there four years and then operated a hotel in Withrow for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer moved to the coast in 1924 and farmed northeast of Bryant until last year when, due to poor health, they retired and moved to the nursing home in Stanwood.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ben Ludeman of Wenatchee; one brother, B. F. Grassaway of Fall River, California; and one sister, Mrs. Olevia Sutliff of Mt. Shasta, California.
Funeral services were held at Arlington. Burial was beside Mr. Sawyer in the Waterville cemetery. Casketbearers were O. B. Mitchell, Jens Petersen, George Beckrieh, Chris Schmidt, Arnold Jacobsen and Bert Petersen.
The Thomas funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
