Wife of Henry Carl Gerwien, married 28 Jan 1915

EmmaAnn West was born inPleasant Grove, Utah on Sept. 1, 1895, to George Daiel West and Cassa (Cassie) Ann Walker. She spent her early childhood in Pleasant Grove with her parents and seven brothers and two sisters. She attended school at Pleasant Grove, graduating from Pleasant Grove High School.

While still a young woman, she came to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she found employment and worked until she met and Marry Henry Carl Gerwien on Jan 28, 1915. (Emma had previously married Clarence Charles Johnson at Provo, Utah, Oct. 1, 1912, but he died in June 1913 and their infant daughter the previous month.)

They made their home in Salt lake city and became the parents of three daughters, Grace, Leah and Dorothy.

Emma was a devoted wife and mother. her family was her whole life and she and her husband and children were always together. She was as excellent housekeeper and a wonderful cook. She raised a garden, and grew beautiful flowers and spent time to train her girls to be the same as she was and also like their Grandmother Cassie. Emma was always a good neighbor and friend-willing to give of her time whenever help was needed. Besides taking care of her family, she found time to take an active part in Relief Society for many years.

Emma's husband, Henry, was a good provider for his family. Coming from Germany at an early age, where he had learned the baker's trade, he worked in bakeries all of his life and was well known for his wonderful pastries and beautiful decorating. He had been as LDS convert and came from a fine family.

After their family was raised and married, Emma and Henry enjoyed going on vacations and trips together.

In the spring of 1959, Emma was stricken with cancer and passed away on November 14, 1959 at the age of 64 years.

On Dec. 7, 1959, Henry went through the Salt Lake Temple for his endowments. He had Emma's endowments done and they were sealed to each other on that same day.

On Sept. 27, 1961 Henry died of a heart attack at the age of 66 years.
