James Connolly
1934 – 2008
MARTHA – James John Connolly, 74,m of Martha, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in King's Daughters' Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born Jan. 20, 1934, in Troy, Ohio, a son of the late John Joseph and Margret Ater Connolly. He worked as a lineman and attended Elisabeth Baptist Church. He was a member of the bluegrass music community and the Old Timers Professional Rodeo Association.
He was also preceded in death by a son, James John Connolly, Jr.; a brother, Jerome Connolly; and a sister, Joann Connolly.
Survivors include his wife of five years, Myrtle Gilliam Connolly; three sons, John David Connolly of Portland, Ore., Kenneth Douglas Connolly of Sandy Hook and Mark Allen Connolly of Middleton, N.Y.; a stepson, Stan Elliott of Sandy Hook; two daughters, Sandra Lee Spitler of Russellville, AK. and Amy Sue Connolly of Quinlan, TX; seven grandchildren; three brothers, John Connolly of Findley, Ohio, Joe Connolly and Michael Connolly, both of Ohio; and two sisters, Patricia Connolly, a sister of the Catholic Church, of Knoxville, TN, and Catherine Neiderkhor of Ohio.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by Brothers Emmett Barker, Charlie T. Wright, Gerald Wright and Herschel Wright.
Burial will be in Gilliam Family Cemetery in Isonville.
Friends called after 5 p.m. Tuesday and can call until services today, Wednesday, November 12, at the funeral home.
Ron Ison, Jim Litteral, Anthony McDowell, Odell Fraley, Donnie Sturgill and Glen Vanover will serve as pallbearers. Travis Elliott and Aaron Elliott, along with his friends of bluegrass music, will serve as honorary pallbearers.
