Wm. M. Norton Former Resident of Badger Mountain, Passes Away

Last Friday forenoon at 1 o'clock William M. Norton, a pioneer citizen of Douglas County died at his home just west of Waterville. He had been ill for a long time from pernicious enemia and his death was not unexpected.

The funeral took place Sunday from the Church of God, Elder A. I. Corbaley conducting the services, and the remains were buried in Fraternity cemetery. A number of old friends came up from Cashmere and Wenatchee to attend the memorial and pay their last respects to a highly respected citizen.

William Monroe Norton, was born in Alton, Illinois November 10th, 1850. Died August 29th, 1919, aged 68 years, 9 months and 19 days. on October 25th, 1876 he was married to Mahulda Stubblefield. In 1878 they moved to Arkansas, to Missouri in 1880. In 1886 they moved to from Missouri to Washington Territory, locating in Douglas County, where he has continuosly resided since.

He first located five miles northwest of Waterville, then on to Badger Mountain, eight miles northwest of Waterville. In 1901 he bought the farm one-half mile southwest of Waterville, where he living at the time of his death. While living here he united the Church of God at Waterville, being baptized by Elder Richard Corbaley.

He leaves to mourn the wife and six children; John E. Norton of Hemmet, Calif., Chales M. Norton of Ephrata, Wash., Martha Whitehall of Waterville, Wash., Walter D. Norton of Baird, Wash., Frank M. Norton of Seattle, Wash., Albert W. Norton of Waterville, Wash. Also a brother and sister in Los Angeles, Calif. and a sister in Illinois. He died respected by all who knew him. ---Big Bend Empire
