Temperance was the daughter of John "Jack" & Susanna (Baker) Freeman.

Temperance, age 30, married a widower, Columbus William Slaughter, 40, in Anderson Co, TX on November 28, 1864.

She gave birth to four children:
Emily 1865 –
Emma 1866 –
Eunis 1866 –
Robert Lee 1867 – 1943

In 1870, Columbus & Temperance, ages 48 & 35, lived on a farm in Anderson Co, TX. They had land valued at $700; personal estate of $520. Their post office was in Palestine. Columbus's children living with them were John R., age 20; Ezekial, 18; Nancy, 11; & Susan, 9. Children from his marriage to Temperance were Emily & Robert, ages 5 & 3.

Columbus died on June 26, 1889; Temperance, the following year on May 4th.
