Billie Mae Bowen Byrne, 84, of Waycross died Saturday (December 25, 2010) at Baptist Village after an extended illness.
She was born in Waycross to the late George "Bill" and Prudence Tatum Bowen and lived here all of her life.
Mrs. Byrne worked many years at JL Smith and Sons, Eckerd and Pearce Drugs. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Leah Sunday School Class. She and her husband were former members of a Bowling League at Waycross Bowling Lanes.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene John "Yankee" Byrne; one son, John Patrick "Pat" Byrne; granddaughter, Patty Faye Byrne; two brothers, Richard Bowen and George Bowen.
Survivors include five daughters:
Sherilyn Byrne Rigdon (Amon), Hampton, SC,
Larraine Peterson (Pete), Waycross,
Joyce Byrne Troisi (Vincent), Hawthorne, FL,
Kathryn Byrne Davis (Stacy), Patterson and
Carol Adams (Jim), Barnesville, GA;
three sons,
Perry Byrne (Diane), Salisbury, NC,
William "Bill" Byrne (Shirley), Blackshear and
David Byrne (Darlene), Jackson, GA;
24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren;
6 great-great grandchildren;
one sister, Theodora Maone, New Hampshire;
several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 am at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
The family requests the Leah Sunday School Class to serve as Honorary Pallbearers and is asked to meet at the church by 10:40 am Wednesday for the service.
