Willa Ruth Wahlstrom 2/28/32 - 3/30/05 Willa Ruth Wahlstrom died March 30th in Alameda, CA. at the age of 73. While born in Pennsylvania, Ruth, as her family and friends called her was raised in Michigan, both in Three Rivers and Sparta. She attended St. Luke's Nursing College in Chicago and after graduation became an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, eventually rising to her rank as Lt. Commander during her 23 years of service she was privilege to serve on the USS Sanctuary from 1967 to 1968. Upon retirement from active duty in 1972 she obtained her masters degree in Nursing at Holy Names University and worked as a private duty nurse while moving to Alameda, CA. which would be her home for the rest of her life. She enjoyed genealogy, scrapbooks and reading. She is survived in death by her mother and brother, Catherine Wahlstrom and Douglas Wahlstrom of Sparta Michigan, her sister Joan Gleason of Des Moines, Iowa and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by her father Carl J. Wahlstrom and her brother Karl D. Wahlstrom. Lt. Commander Willa Ruth Wahlstrom will be buried Wednesday April 13th at Arlington national Cemetery with full military honors.
