Mrs. Matilda V. Madsen, 73, died at 2:15 Wednesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Rhea) Wernz, 557 West 2nd South, Provo, of natural causes.

Mrs. Madsen served as Ephraim City Treasurer for twelve years before moving to Provo eight years ago.

She had not been in good health for some time but was up and around the house Tuesday. She became very ill about eight o'clock that evening and suffered much pain from then until she passed away some six hours later.

Mrs. Madsen was bornin Ephraim, Nov. 28, 1881, to Otto G. and Eliza V. Christensen Olsen. She grew up in Ephraim, attending local schools and graduated from what is now Snow College. She was active in church work and her service included being a member of the Primary stake board, ward Primary president and also counselor to other presidents, YWMIA officer and teacher, and a Relief Society worker.

She was married to Hyrum B. Madsen on June 28, 1905, in the Manti Temple. He died in January. 1919. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Wernz, and two sonds, Eeardley (who is ill with an infection and probably will not be able to attend the funeral) of Englewood, Calif., and Max G. Madsen, Salt Lake City; one brother, O. Norman Olsen, Hollywood, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Josie O. Anderson and Mrs. Delma Christensen, Ephraim, and Mrs. Rachel O. Davis, Provo; also by 9 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was to be held at the Berg Mortuary in Provo at 10:30 Friday forenoon after which the body is to be brought to Ephraim and it will be at the Buchanan Funeral Parlor – the former Otto G. Olsen home – where it will be Friday evening and Saturday forenoon, during which time friends may call.

Additional services will be conducted in the Ephraim North Ward chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Ephraim Park cemetery.
