Peterson (sic) - Christian, age 85, died at Ruskin March 20. [He would have been 86 had he lived until March 25]. Mr. Peterson (sic) had been a resident of Nuckolls county (sic) for 47 years. Born in East Kjull via Hjorring, Denmark, in 1839 [March 25, 1839]. Married in New York at the age of 32 to Miss Christiana (sic) Olsen. Survived by wife and six children: Wilber of Elk Horn, Iowa; James of Fremont; S.P. of Underwood, Iowa; Laurence of Ruskin; Mrs. Chr. Gregerson, Ruskin. Interment made at Ruskin cemetery (sic) March 22.

"When [Christian Petersen]...was 19 years old he took hire on a trading vessel and for 14 years he sailed on the great oceans and visited many ports. At 32 years of age he came back to Denmark and after a brief visit at his home he sailed for America intending to make it his future home. Shortly after he was joined by his fiance, Miss Christiana Olsen. Immediately upon her arrival at New York they were united in marriage at that place. Shortly after the wedding they went west making their home for seven years in Missouri and Iowa. In 1878 they came to Nuckolls county, Nebr., where they have resided ever since. For 47 years they resided on a farm 4 miles south of Ruskin and the past 10 years they have lived in Ruskin.
Mr. and Mrs. Petersen were blessed with 9 children of which 6 are living namely: Wilber Petersen, Elk Horn, Iowa; Mrs. Niel Hautved, Ruskin, Neb.; Rev. James Petersen, Fremont, Neb.; S. Peter Petersen, Underwood, Iowa; Lawrence Petersen, Ruskin, Neb.; Mrs. Chr. Gregersen, Ruskin, Neb. .... Mr. Petersen leaves behind one brother in Texas and one sister in Denmark, one nephew at Ruskin, Mr. J.C. Christiansen, and he leaves 28 grandchildren. Mr. Petersen was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church near Ruskin from which the funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment took place at the Ruskin cemetery."
