Church services for Donnye Baker, 72, of Morton, will be 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton with Rev. Bob Baldree, Rev. B.J. Brooks and Rev. Harold Harrsion officiating. Family visitation will be this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home in Morton. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home in Morton. Mr. Baker died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 in Morton after battling cancer for two years.

He was born on May 1, 1937 to H.L. "Shorty" and Kathryn (Holland) Baker in Big Spring, Texas. He married Sammie Grace Shakespeare in Morton on Feb. 14, 1958.

Mr. Baker moved to Three Way in 1950 from Big Spring, and moved to Morton in 1954. He was a farmer/rancher and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton. He was a 1955 graduate of Morton High School. He coached Little League, was past President and member of Morton Athletic Booster Club, served on the Cochran Co. ASCS Board, and was director of Enochs Co-Op Gin, where he was manager for three years. He was an FFA Sponsor, a Band Sponsor, and worked with 4-H and Boy Scouts. Mr. Baker was a member of Bula and Enochs Lions Clubs. He loved to try his luck at fishing, getting in a deer blind, and riding horses, when not working the farm.

Survivors include, his wife, Sammie of Morton; sons, Mark Baker and wife D'Ann of Whiteface and Wade Baker and wife Connie Jo of Morton; daughters, Tammie Rogers and husband David of Denver City and Mitzi Wohleking and husband Mark of Midland; sister, Janice Bracken of Mesquite; brother, Larry Baker and wife Janice of Santa Fe, N.M.; grandchildren, Taryn Parker, Ty Rogers, Sally Waltrip, Reese Waltrip, Natalie Waggoner, Nicholes Baker, Nolan Baker, Garrett Baker and Peyton Baker; great-grandchildren, Braylie Waggoner, Brooklyn Parker and Beckhem Parker; and step-grandchildren, Trent Rogers, Doug, Shelle and Katie Wohleking, and Brandon and Stephen Eubanks.
