Unidentified Newsclipping - 1891
PUGH.--Elvira E. Gorin was born in Todd County, Kentucky, December 17, 1814, and died in Decatur, Illinois, April 7, 1891. She emigrated with her father and mother to Vandalia, Illinois, in the spring of 1828, where she was married to Isaac C. Pugh August 2, 1831. They removed to Macon County on horseback. Mrs. Pugh was the mother of eleven children; four survive her: Mrs. Martha M. Lowry, of Decatur; John H. Pugh, of Marion, Missouri; Mrs. I. Gillham, of Fort Scott, Kansas and Mrs. Almyra C. Marck, of Decatur. The deceased was left a widow by the death of General Isaac C. Pugh in November 1874. Mrs. Pugh united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1833, and had been a member of the First Church, Decatur, for nearly sixty years. She lived her Christianity. Until the infirmities of age came, she was a constant attendant upon all the means of grace. She was consecrated to God, devoted to her family, and loyal to her country. She was often at her husband's head-quarters, and many a weary, wounded and dying soldier had felt her soft touch and heard her sympathetic words. Three of her father's family survive her: Mrs, Maria Kirkman, of Winchester, Illinois, aged 80; Gladden Gorin, of Kansas City, Missouri, aged 71; and Hon. J. R. Gorin, of Decatur, Illinois, aged 73.
