Julia Olson Was Active In Community Affairs
Julia Margaret Aspelin Olson, 82, who died Wednesday, July 21, 2004,
at the Geary County Community Hospital in Junction City, was quite
active in community affairs.
She was a member of the Dwight Presbyterian Church, where she served
as Sunday School superintendent more than 20 years, and was a
soloist at many services. Also, she was a member of the Research
Club and the Mariner's Club in which she and her husband were
captains or leaders.
Mrs. Olson was a member of Dwight Chapter of the Order of Eastern
Star in which she had been worthy matron, was a district aid and
held numerous other offices, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge at
Junction City. In her younger years she was active in other
community affairs. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed her family very much.
She was born July 11, 1922, at Dwight, daughter of Charles and Mary
Lewis Aspelin.
Her marriage to Albert Willard Olson was June 9, 1940, at Dwight.
He died Nov. 15, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her
parents, a brother, Ralph Aspelin; a son, Trent Olson on Dec. 19,
2001, and two great granddaughters, Kaylee Olson and Taylor A. Blount.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Cobos and husband Oscar,
Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, Bruce Olson and wife Pamela and Steve L. Olson and wife Janet, Dwight, and Brian W. Olson and wife Penny,
Olathe; a sister, Wilma "Babe" Ottinger and husband Al, Overland
Park; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dwight Presbyterian Church
with burial to follow in the Dwight Cemetery. Mrs. Olson will lie in state until 9 o'clock tonight at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home &
Crematory Council Grove Chapel, and friends and family will meet there from 7 until 8.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dwight Presbyterian Church.
