John R. Gunningham Sr.
John Richard Gunningham Sr., 86, of Heber Springs, Ark., died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Golden Living Center/Oak Ridge.
He was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Millersburg, Mich., to Raymond and Florence Gage Gunningham. He lived in Richmond from 1961 to 1971, when he moved to Arkansas, returning to Richmond this October.
John formerly worked as a supervisor at Avco, and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian Theater. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Heber Springs, and enjoyed golf and fishing.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith Gunningham (Bob) Sell of Greens Fork; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Myna Nash of Winfield, Kan.; nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Delores Gunningham; two sons, John Richard Gunningham Jr. and William Raymond Gunningham; his parents; two sisters, Martha Luce and Mary Jane Carvlho; and his brother, Charles Gunningham.
There will be no services or public calling. John will be laid to rest with his wife, daughter and one son in Arkansas.
