Albrecht was born as prince of Bavaria, his parents were of Albrecht VI. von Bayern-Leuchtenberg (1584–1666) und Mechthilde von Leuchtenberg (1588–1634),
He was the Prince-Bishop of Freising from 1652-1685, as well as Prince-Bishop (Fürstbischof) of Regensburg between 1668 and 1685.
