Johannes (John) Johann Jacob II, was on active Duty as Private in American Revolutionary Army as shown by following:----War Department at Washington, D. C., states under date of 5-23-1921 "the reords of this office show that one Jacob Deckard (surname not born as Deckard, rank not stated served in the Revolutionary War as a soldier of Va. Inf., organizaton not shown. His name appears in book under the heading "A list of State Soldiers & Seamen who have received certificates for the balance of their full pay, agreeable to Act of Assembly passed November Session 1781" which shows that on 7-30-1874 the sum of 21 pounds 9 shillings & 4 pence was drawn by one, Mr. Broadhead." Report No. 8 at Richmond in Va. State Library of Revolutionary Soldiers of Va. shows Jacob Deckard on Active Duty. List of Virginia Revbolutionary Soldiers by H. J. Eckenrode, Archives of Va. State.

Johannes Jacob I, Deckert accompanied his 3 sons to America around 1775-76 arriving in New York but settling in Essex County, New Jersey. He must have tired of his name being pronounced as Decker becaused he dropped the "t" from his name in America. It is said that he helped other immigrants get settled in America. Eventually he settled in the Southwestern part of the State of Virginia, in what is now Wythe County which was constituted about 1790. The Deckard Family had all left Wythe County by about 1830 to 1832 and settled in Monroe Co., Indiana. Then principally to surrounding counties in Indiana of Lawrence, Brown, Green, Sullivan, and to state of Missouri. About 1900's they were spreading thru Arkansas and then into Oklahoma.
