Galax, VAAug 18 -- Professor
Rufus N Gardner , 62, well known farmer of barren Springs and retired educator, died Tuesday at Martin Memorial Hospital, Mt Airy, following an operation.

Mr Gardner taught many years at Bridle Creek in Grayson County and in Carroll and was principal of Dublin Institute for a time.

He was a son of the late John Gardner and Amelia Farmer Gardner, prominent Carroll County citizens.

He was a brother in law of W F Wampler of Galax.
He was survived by his widow who was the former Miss Ossie Wampler and one daughter Miss Amelia Gardner and several sisters and brothers.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon with interment in the Gardner Cemetery near Hillsville.
