Funeral service for Mrs. Sara Jo Skaggs, 75, of Alexander City, will be Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 3:00 pm at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Rockford. Randy Anderson will officiate. She will lie instate for one hour at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Skaggs passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at her residence. She was born on September 18, 1934 in Talladega County to Winston Phillip Culberson and Mary Atchley Culberson. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and worked for Russell Corp. as a winder. Mrs. Skaggs loved to cook, with roast, green beans, and fried corn being a few of her specialties. She enjoyed family gatherings and going to flea markets. She enjoyed drawing and loved singing and gospel music. She loved sweets, especially chocolate.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Lovelady (Tommy) of New Site, Donna Bishop (Ronnie) of Hatton, Susan Whitney (Gerald Massey) of Holly Pond, and Shelia Trana (Phil) of Hampton, VA; son, Donald W. "Buddy" Skaggs of Alexander City; grandchildren, Josh Burke, Dixie Burke McLemore, Landon Bishop, Misty Bussie, Chasity Hammond, Michele East, Kathy Colley, Scotty Lovelady, Phillip Trana, Andrew Trana, Matthew Trana, Myles Wayne Skaggs, and Styles Martin Skaggs; sixteen great grandchildren; and brothers, Robert Culberson of Montgomery, Thomas Culberson (Charlotte) and Morris Wayne Culberson (Alice), all of Hackneyville, and Serrell Culberson of Sylacauga.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 40 years, Donald Martin Skaggs; son, Jackie Ray Self; and great grandson, Taylor Bussie.
