Henry Beir (1812-1897) - Died at the home of his son-in-law, Mark Dotson, Sat., 23 Jan. 1897, age 85 yrs. Deceased was born in Chester Co., PA on 13 Dec. 1812. On 5 Dec. 1833, he was married to Elizabeth McCormick by which union six children were born, five of whom now survive to mourn his death as follows, Mrs. Josiah Scull of NE, Mrs. David Dotson (Lydia) of Elrick, IA, Mrs. George Webster of Fruitland, IA, Mrs. Emily (Thornton) Nichols of Muscatine and Mrs. Mark Dotson (Martha) of Newport. IA.

In 1835, he and his wife moved to Champaign Co., OH where they lived until the fall of 1842 when they departed for Iowa, then a territory locating in Louisa County. He entered a piece of land immediately upon which he resided up to 3 or 4 years ago.

By good management and hard work, he obtained a good home and was in comfortable circumstances. His loving wire that withstood the hardships of the early days in Iowa and had shared his griefs and sorrows passed away from this earth 16 Feb. 1866. On 7 Oct. 1875 deceased was again united in marriage to Mrs. Lucinda Erly who departed this life 27 July 1892.

Deceased has always lived an exemplary Christian life. He gave his heart to God and united with the Methodist Church in 1832. In 1850 he united by letter with the M P. Church at Fairview. He was one of the main leaders in the building of the old church.

The funeral services were held Monday, Rev. R. S. Tague conducting. He was laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery besides those of his departed partners in life.
