Rose was born in West Prussia and married Ferdinand Buttke. They emigrated to the United States, via Quebec, Canada in 1853, first settling near Kewaskum, Wisconsin and a short time later moving to Marathon County, near Wausau. In 1880 they moved from Stettin Twp, Marathon County, Wisconsin to Dakota Territory.

Their children: Fred and Christina (died as youngsters in Wisconsin), Carl, who married Augusta Fraase, William; Wilhelmina, who married Ferdinand Buttke; Rosa, who married Edward Ackerson; Justine, who married William Seehafer; and Pauline, who married William Weinke. All of them, except Mrs. Weinke, settled in Dakota Territory.

Ferdinand, Rosa, and their younger children, William, Wilhelmina and Rosa, filed claim on the NE1/4 of Sec 10 of Howes Twp, and their oldest son, Carl, and his wife, Augusta (Fraase), placed their claim on the SW1/4 of Sec 2 of Howes Twp.

Memorial Stone indicates that she is buried in same grave site as her husband, Ferdinand. Casselton Cemetery records do not reflect this.
