CLARENDON - Naveta Thelma Farnsworth Browning, 95, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Clarendon Church of Christ with her grandson, Brad Thompson, officiating, and her grandsons, Jerry Keeley, Trace Browning and Steven Browning, assisting. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Browning, the eldest of nine children, was born May 22, 1914, in Gage, Okla., to Fred and Bernice Farnsworth. She graduated from Canadian High School in 1933 and attended Wayland College, where she received a teaching certificate in 1936. In 1940, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Texas State Teacher's College in Canyon. While teaching at a rural school between Adrian and Vega, she met Harold Browning and they were married May 13, 1941. She taught full time until Harold was discharged from the Army and then continued teaching as a substitute.
She was very active in Vega ISD's Parent Teachers Association.
The Brownings farmed and ranched in Oldham County 33 years then moved to Lelia Lake in Donley County in April 1975. In 1998, they moved in to Clarendon. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was very active in its benevolence program, providing food anytime it was needed. She also served as a Sunday school teacher and worked in the World Bible School Program.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Browning; a grandson, Lynn Thompson; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include three daughters, Sue Thompson and husband Marvin of Clarendon and Patty Browning and Tippy Browning, both of Lamesa; two sons, Bill Browning and wife Susan of Amarillo and Sam Browning and wife Linda of Miami; three sisters, Lola Kerr of Midland, Marjorie Garrison of Otis Orchard, Wash., and Alice Munford of Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Johnny Farnsworth and wife Janie of Memphis; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jeffery Browning, John Browning, Steven Browning, Trace Browning, J. K. Hester, Jerry Keeley, Jeb Stone, Justin Thompson and Will Thompson. Serving as honorary casket bearers are Mrs. Browning's granddaughters.
The family will be at 621 S. Gorst St.
