Miriam Camburn Applegate, 82, of Toms River, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Green Acres Manor, Toms River.
Born in Waretown, she was a graduate of Barnegat High School before moving to Toms River in 1945.
She was a secretary for Berry, Whitson & Berry Law Firm in Toms River and former secretary to the commanding officer at Naval Air Station in Lakehurst.
She was a life member and past president and secretary of Toms River Fire Company #2 Ladies Auxiliary, member of: St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Toms River, where she was a secretary for 17 years, Sunday school teacher and Youth Fellowship Counselor, Garden of Pleasant Plains Association and Waretown Historical Society.
She was predeceased by her parents, Rudolph and Anna Mae Camburn; a son, Dennis; and a brother, Ernest Camburn.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alvin; a daughter, Anita Flynn and her husband Brian of Voorhees; a sister, Rita Weynman of Whiting; a brother, Donald Camburn and his wife Dorothy of Whidby Island, Wash.; and two grandchildren, James and Lisa.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 and 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16 until the funeral service at 10 a.m. at the Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals, 412 Main St., Toms River. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations in Miriam's name may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 1528 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08755.
