Orville "Squirrelly" Hicks, 82, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at his daughter's home in McGuffey.

He was born Oct. 31, 1926 in Garrett, Ky., to Alfred and Dora Ellen (Bolen) Hicks. On Sept. 28, 1945, he married Ethel Prater in Prestonsburg, Ky., and she preceded him in death on May 1, 1988.

Surviving are a son, Orville (Nora) Hicks Jr. of Kenton; two daughters, Norma (John) Bailey of McGuffey and Maretta (Rick) Crowe of Kenton; eight grandchildren, David (Mistee) Bailey, Jeannie (Jim) Biederman and Brian (Kendra) Hicks, all of Kenton, Sherry (Don) Taylor of McGuffey, Jason (Michelle) Bailey of Belle Center, Mike (Megan) Denny and Kevin Lee Denny, both of Las Vegas, Nev., and Heather Harshfield of Indian Lake; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Carol Jordan of Cridersville; a half-brother, Roger (Ellen) Hicks of Ashtabula and a step-brother, Edgbert (Alice) Hicks of Kenton.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Millie Dudley and Polly Hays and seven brothers, Elbert Hicks, Lawrence Hicks, Mitchell Hicks, Irvin Hicks, John M. Hicks, Millard "Peachy" Hicks and Burt Hicks.

He retired from Rockwell International, formerly of Kenton, where he worked for 30 years.

He also worked in the onion fields of McGuffey, the Tank Depot of Lima and the railroad.

He was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God in Alger.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing. His greatest love of all was his church. He especially enjoyed spending time sitting on his front porch and waving at his neighbors. We will all miss him.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God in Alger by Pastor Robert Dye. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
