Jack Stewart (Jack) Simpson, retired railroad employee and a former sheriff of Chickasaw County, died at 7:30 pm, Thursday, Feb 17, at his home on Highway 8, just west of Houston. He was 81.

Funeral services were conducted from the Houston Funeral Home Chapel at 10 am, Saturday, Feb 19, with the Rev. Howard Hathorn, pastor of the Houston Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Houston Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Willie Foster, Derwood MuCullough, Connie Lee Hill, Johnny Gann, Jasper Rish and Leonard Roberson.

Mr. Simpson was born at Hickory Flat, Miss in Benton County on July 10 1890. He was the son of the late John Calhoun Simpson and Elizabeth Lidell Simpson. He was a member of the Houston Methodist Church.

Prior to moving to Houston in 1932, Mr. Simpson had been a telegraph operator and agent with the old GM&O Railroad. He had served as telegraph operator at Ingomar, Houlka, Woodland and High Point in Winston County.

Moving to Houston in 1932, he owned and operated a mercantile and livestock business, and later engaged in farming operation.

He was sheriff of this county from 1940-1945. After serving this term as sheriff, he returned to farming , and then was with the railroad at Houlka until he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vera C Simpson of Houston; three sons, Arnold, Raymond and John Hugh Simpson, all of Houston; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
