Charlotte Mary (Rooney) Hollen, age 82, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Wuesthoff Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Rockledge, FL after a five year battle with multiple myeloma. Mrs. Hollen was born in Altoona, PA to Thomas and Mary (Riley) Rooney on September 2, 1927. She graduated from the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1948, and worked many years as an emergency room nurse at Hialeah Hospital in Hialeah, FL. Later she worked at the University of Miami's National Children's Cardiac Hospital in South FL. Mrs. Hollen came to Brevard County in 2002 from Lakeland, FL. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and loved to scrapbook in her spare time.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, James Robert Hollen of Merritt Island, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Bill York of Merritt Island; Mary and Doug Welsh of Middleburg, FL; Nancy and Jeff Palmer of Waldorf, MD; grandchildren and spouses, Debbie York, Kelly and Chris Sims, James and Ashley Welsh, Jeffrey Welsh, Robert Cowdin, Kasey Cowdin; great- granddaughter, Carley Ray Sims; sister, Alice Stahl of Lake Placid, FL; brother, Gerald Rooney of CA, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, October 16th at Grace United Methodist Church on Merritt Island, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge. Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home on Merritt Island is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Wuesthoff Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Rockledge.
