DEATH COMES SUDDENLY TO HARNSBERGER

James J. Harnsberger, retired Champaign business man, died at 6 o’clock last night at his home 212 West Park avenue, Champaign after an illness of a short time due to heart disease.
The deceased was born on a farm near Springfield, Sangamon county, April 22, 1851, a son of Mary Scott and George Gatch Harnsberger. He traced his ancestry back to Stephen Harnsberger from Switzerland in the year 1711 and settled in Spottsylvania county, Va.
When 10 years old he moved with his parents to a farm near Mechanicsburg, Ill., which was a part of a large tract of land owned by his father. In the fall of 1865 they moved again to Walnut Grove farm, six miles northeast of Decatur, where he grew to manhood and obtained his education in the rural and Decatur schools.
On October 12th, 1882 Mr. Harnsberger was united in marriage to Anna Bell Sawyer and they lived on a part of his father’s land where two children, Bertha, wife of Emerson Spence and Edward Scott Harnsberger of rural route Urbana were born.
In the spring of 1891, Mr. Harnsberger moved with his family to Champaign and there the youngest child, Viola Gertrude, now the wife of Lyman S. Weeks of Chicago, was born.
In 1828 [sic] he built what was known as the Farmers’ Feed Barn, located on South Walnut street, Champaign. Later he engaged in the real estate business and retired from active business in 1913.
He is preceded in death by his wife who died December 9, 1923.
Mr. Harnsberger was a member of the Masonic lodge and in his earlier life was active in the affairs of the Methodist Episcopal church.
He is is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Emerson Spence, at home and Mrs. Lyman S. Weeks, Chicago, son Edward Harnsberger of Urbana and two sisters, Miss Ursula Bell Harnsberger and Mrs. M. E. Hardy, both who live on the homestead in Decatur. brother, William H. Harnsberger, died in 1915 and another Edward Scott Harnsberger, in infancy.
Definite arrangements for the funeral have not been made.
