Larkin Vaught was born in Clark County, Indiana, December 12, 1834, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. G. McConnell, Golden City, Mo., April 1, 1927, aged 92 years, 3 months and 20 days. When about 23 years of age he left Indiana, moving to Jefferson County, Iowa and on June 12, 1858 was there united in marriage to Miss Melissa E. Lynch. To this union 9 children were born, three preceding him in death. He leaves three daughters: Mrs. Wm. G. McConnell, Golden City, Mo.; Mrs. Laura Zook, McClough, Kans.; Mrs. Clar Kercher, Des Moines, Iowa. Three sons, Wm. of Jasper; George and Charles of California; also four sisters Elizabeth Commeges, Chillicothe; Maggie Potts and Sarah Moore of Libertyville, Iowa and Alice Hunter of Altoona, Iowa. Twenty-six grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and a large number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends. His wife preceded him in death about 14 years. After her death he came to Missouri and has since made his home with his daughter Mrs. Wm. G. McConnell.
Early in life he was converted and united with the Methodist church, and has been a faithful member through many years. Funeral services were conducted at the Wm. G. McConnell home, by Rev. G. A. Moss, Monday afternoon. The body was taken to Unionville, Iowa, and interred in the Fairview cemetery, beside that of his wife.
