Leora Mikkelsen Dunn
Our dearest little "Mumma" and faithful friend has gone home to her sweetheart and family. Leora Mikkelsen Dunn passed away peacefully at her home on May 15, 2006, she was 92.
She was born in Hyde Park, Utah on December 21, 1913 to Orville and Bessie Mikkelsen. She left school after the ninth grade to work to help her family.
She married Ezra T. Dunn on May 5, 1942 in Preston, Idaho. It was World War II and Leora joined her husband in Arizona and then Texas where he was serving in the Army Air Corps. Their first daughter, Nancy, was born during this time.
After the war, they returned to Logan and a another daughter, Diane, was born here. They remained in Logan and spent long and peaceful lives in the valley they loved.
Leora and Ez courted to music and dancing and this love of music stayed with Leora all her life.
Making a decision to stay in her home and raise her children, she spent countless hours working on genealogy. Much of her research was in her own family line. Leora and Ez were longtime members of the Logan 20th Ward (now Hillcrest 2nd).
She was an avid reader and was knowledgeable on many different subjects. The family would like to thank Nancy Carlisle and the Logan Library for their kindness in sending books to her these last few years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her mother and father; sisters, LuRay, Ruth and Jean; and her brother, Leland. She is survived by her daughters; Nancy Dunn Blackburn and Diane Abigail Dunn; granddaughter, Laurette LuRay; grandsons, Sean Dunn Blackburn and Garth Dustin (Jennifer) Blackburn; and three great-grandchildren.
She quietly and without fanfare touched many lives and she will be missed. She had wanted to be a teacher, and though this didn't happen, she did teach. She taught love and honesty, integrity and compassion, and in her later years, she taught endurance.
Dad was the gentle breeze that steered us, but mom was the ship that carried us all of our lives. Our family will miss her. Mumma and Grandma, we love you so much, but we know you are happy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2006 in the Hillcrest 2nd Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held at the church prior to services beginning at 12 PM. Interment will be in the Hyde Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
