Korean War United States Army Soldier. Born in Berwick, Pennsylvania, he was the first United States Military enlisted man fatality casualty of the Korean War. He enlisted in the United States Army while in the Hawaiian Islands, in 1936 and had a distinguished career serving in the service through World War II and was awarded the Silver Star for valor. He was as a Sergeant stationed at Japan, in April, 1949, with the United States Army 24th Division when conflicts with Korea started. Deployed to Korea, he as a member of the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by enemy missile fire near Taejon, South Korea on July 24, 1950 and died of his wounds four days later in a hospital in Japan. His brother, Sergeant Day G. Turner, had been posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor after his death for actions in World War II.
