Josiah and Avis "Avy" Willis were licensed to marry at the now historic Jacinto Courthouse which, in 1844, was the county seat of "Old" Tishomingo County. On April 15, 1870, "Old" Tishomingo was split into the three present day counties of Alcorn, Prentiss and "New" Tishomingo. It has been said that Josiah was carried to the cemetery on a ground slide pulled by a team of oxen. Sometime after his death, some of Josiah's sons, including James A. Lambert and Hickman "Hick L" Lambert, moved to the Ellis County, Texas area. They later sent money for their mother Avis "Avy" (Willis) Lambert to visit them. During her visit in October 1893, Avy died and was buried in Bee Creek Cemetery which is between the towns Maepearl and Waxahachie, Ellis County, TX.
