Harry served in Company H 6th Minnesota Infantry during the Civil War.His wife was Mary Ann Smalley, born in 1828 and died on Jan. 12, 1903; Harry's health suffered from his his Civil War service and after a long drawn out process, she received a widow's pension based on Harry's service

DIED—At his residence in Jordan Township,
in this county, on Sunday, July 4th, of
lung fever HARRY BROWNS, aged 50 years
He leaves a wife' and five children. A large
procession of friends and neighbors, by whom
he was highly esteemed, followed his remains
to the grave on Tuesday.
