Grampa was in first World War he served 89 days and then was discharged. According to family members the War ended while he was crossing the water on route to battle. It sounds as if he may have been discharged to keep him from being qualified to receive his army pension. Never the less we have an old family saying, "It did not take Grampa long to get things cleaned up once they heard he was on his way"

WVA PVT US ARMY WW II ..... SON OF THOMAS & VIOLA FERRELL VANNATTER

Grampa had four sons in World War II and they were all in battle at the same time. He would keep up with his sons by short wave radio could almost tell you where they were at and how bloody the battle was at all times. "He must have known heart felt crys."

They called his 5th son to the army but grampa said that no way would he let this son go until some others on the creek got their call to duty. It seems that politics was being used to keep these others out of the war.

Grampa had another son to join the army when the Korean War was in motion. Grampa raised these children by his self. Because Grandma died at the birth of her last Son. Grandpa divorced Minnie Adkins on January 14, 1952.
