NORTH LIBERTY - Emiel R. Coddens, 86, of North Liberty, IN, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2009, in his home. Emiel was born on March 19, 1923, to the late Adiel and Emma (DeLater) Coddens in South Bend, IN, and had lived most of his life in North Liberty. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rene C. Coddens, and a granddaughter, Rebecca Lawson. On November 23, 1961, he married Helen Hanyzewski in St. Patrick Catholic Church, South Bend, IN. Along with his loving wife, Helen, he is survived by two sons, James (Patti) Coddens of Granger, IN, and Rene A. Coddens of Mishawaka, IN; two daughters, Karen (Kenny) Plencner and Diane Lawson, both of North Liberty, IN. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Katelyn and Kyle Plencner, Rachael and Rebecca Lawson, and Logan Coddens. Emiel took great pride in both being a farmer and his John Deere tractors. He worked at St. Joseph High School before working at Bendix Corporation, from which he retired. Private services were held in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were handled by the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.
