Akron Beacon Journal, Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1909, Mrs. Smith, wife of G. W. Smith, 339 North Case ave, a mother of 13 children, died suddenly Monday afternoon. She was stricken with apoplexy while doing a washing and died shortly after. Her son, Edward G. Smith, aged 22 years was with her at the time. "I came home for dinner", said the young man, "and had not been in the house very long until mother commenced to complain of feeling numb." "I called a doctor but she kept getting worse. She had been feeling well all day and was in the best of spirits. I am now glad I went home for dinner, for had I not done so, she might have died alone as there were no other members of the family at home." Mrs. Smith was 54 years old and a member of the First M. E. Church. Besides her husband, the following children survive her: Mrs. Maggie Gosson, Akron; Miss Gertrude Smith, Akron; Edward G. Smith, Akron; William Ray Smith, the youngest being eight years of age, Akron; W. R. E. Smith, Cleveland; Mrs. Jessie Gosson, Cleveland; Mrs. Elsie Gosson, Cleveland; Mrs. Marie Santacruz, New York; Mrs. Emma Moore, Dayton; Mrs. Lillie Clemens, Bryan; Miss Zelora Smith, Cleveland; Mrs. Cora Langley, Lima; Mrs. Fay Brito, Akron. The body was taken to the home of Mrs. William Gosson, 203 Wooster ave, Tuesday and will be sent to Lima, Wednesday for burial. There will be no services in this city.
