Rodolphus was son of Daniel and Sabra Starkweathr Kirby Garlick. He served in the War of 1812, joining the 21st U.S. Infantry at Middlebury, VT 10 Jun 1813 and served in Capt. Chapman's Co., Capt. Grafton's Co., and Capt. Morrell Marston's Co., He was discharged at Erie, PA 12 Aug 1815. He was married to Ann Porter at Springfield, Erie Co., PA 31 Sep 1817. He worked as a blacksmith. He and Ann were the parents of 6 children.

Rodolphus name is listed as Rhodolphus on the monument his brother Theodatus had erected to their mother Sabra Starkweather Kirby Garlick in the Washington Street Cemetery in Middlebury, Addison Co., VT. Proof that he is buried here in the Springfield Cemetery is found in his daughter Susan's book:

"In all of the events which transpired during this visit, no event is so indelibly fixed on my mind as that of visiting my father's grave which lies in the cemetery at Springfield, Erie Co. I knelt beside the grassy mound."
