Payton was born in Milo and came to Bethany in 1937. He was a retired painting contractor and a member of the Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by his wife, Addie Mae three sons, Aubrey D. Jr., 4116 Cunningham Drive, Wendell H., 5805 N Donald and Curtis W Mustang, and three sisters, Mrs. Berta Foster, 2221 N Indianan, and Mrs. Lois Maddox and Mrs. Bessie Cross both of Fort Worth, Tex.
