He was the son of Peter and Susannah (Coil) Betz of Stark County, Ohio. With his mother, at the time a widow, he came to Indiana when but 4 years locating near Mishawaka. 3 years later they came to Bremen. April 27 1856, he was united in marriage with Mary M. Ringle, who died 30 years ago. 10 children were born to them of whom 5 survive. Mrs. Jacob Swank, Mrs. Mitchael Yenna, Mrs. Edward S. Kitch and Misses Mellissa and Grace Bates. 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren...worked as carpenter and teamster ....1868 bought a farm near the North Union church.....in 1905 moved to Bremen. Out of town persons for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Swank, Mrs. Bert Plummer and A.J. Dumph of Bourbon. Mr & Mrs W. B. Swank, Mr & Mrs Will Kinzie & Mr. & Mrs John Ringle of Lapax. Mr & Mrs.E. M. Martin, son William & daughter Phydelma of Muncie, ID. Mrs F.Farier of North Liberty. Mrs. J.J. Muntz and baby of Elkhart. Mr & Mrs. Wallace Lape of Napanee. Mr & Mrs Albert Rhoades of Inwood. Mrs. W.F. Horn, Mr. & Mrs Sim Evans and son Gerald and Mr. & Mrs E. L. Kellogg of South Bend. Mr.& Mrs. Elmer Snyder of Lakeville. Mr. & Mrs. Edw. S.
