Service: A graveside memorial service for Sam will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in Chulio Cemetery, Adair County, Stilwell, Okla. Sam's friend and minister, the Rev. Dr. Murray Richey of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, will officiate.
Sam was born June 27, 1943, in Tahlequah, Okla., the son of Samuel Washington Hopkins and Sallie Gann Hopkins. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force who served during the Vietnam War. He was also an elder at John Knox Presbyterian Church.
Sam met all of life's circumstances with a smile on his face and kept all those around him laughing too. He was a warm and loving man who deeply loved his God, his family, his friends, his dogs (Mortimer and Molly) and his birds (Keet and Pete).
Sam was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel and Helen Hopkins and Joe and Katie Gann; his parents, Sam and Sallie Hopkins; brothers, Henry Clay, Joe Harvey and Samuel W. Hopkins; and sisters, Imogene and Helen Louise.
Survivors: His wife of 44 years, Diane Baggarly Hopkins of Fort Worth; his children, Samuel Stewart Hopkins of Sulphur Springs, Ohio, Heather LeAnn Traynham, Aaron Lee Hopkins and Adam Clay Hopkins of Fort Worth; his grandchildren, Wade Samuel, Kathryn Diane and Colton Charles Hopkins of Sulphur Springs, Ohio, are left to cherish his memory. He is also survived by sisters, Ora Watson and Eva Heath, both of Cortez, Colo.; and his brother, Herbert Hopkins of Mesquite, Nev.
