Eugene married Philomena Robitaille in 1915, Golf Hill, Oregon and they are the parents of three children. After Philomena's death in June, 1935, Gene married Lucile Morris on her 38th birthday, July 22, 1936, Springfield, Missouri.

Eugene first served as a Court Reporter for Polk County in Bolivar, MO for 12 years. He then moved to Springfield and worked as Reporter for the Greene County Circuit Court of Missouri where he served for 18 years. He was a member of the Greene County Bar Association as a non-practicing attorney, a member of the state and national Shorthand Reporters Associations and a trustee of the First Congregational Church.

At the time of his death from a heart attack, Gene was survived by his wife Lucile, his children Joseph and Rosemary, and a sister Mattie Weaver of St. Louis, MO.
