CORTLAND — Arthur V. Burr, 80, 4203 Greenville Road N.E., entered peacefully into the Lord's hands at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, with his loving family at his side, following a brief illness. Arthur was born March 7, 1928, in Howland, the son of the late Arthur and Josephine Hake Burr, and was a resident of the Johnston area for the past 51 years, coming from Fowler. He attended Fowler High School.
He was employed as a millworker with the former Van Huffel Tube Corp.for 42 years, retiring from his duties in 1985. In later years, he was employed with Johnston Township. Arthur was active with the Johnston Fire Department and its association as a volunteer firefighter and enjoyed the annual Christmas tree sale the department held. He attended Assembly of God Church in Vernon, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. Arthur enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and mowing, and playing his harmonica along with the very special times with his family and grandchildren and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Melvin D. Burr, and a sister, Dorothy Hayslett.
Private services will be Saturday at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Pastor Jim George. Burial will follow at Johnston Township Cemetery. Material contributions may take the form of tributes to the Johnston Fire Department, 4424 B. Greenville Road N.E., Cortland 44410. The family would like to proved a special thank you to the Hospice of the Valley for all their tender and compassionate care given to Arthur in his time of need.
