Mathilda was the daughter of Carl & Fredericke Louise (Hobus) Hanke. She was born in Codeshagen, Pommern, Prussia. She had 11 siblings and only three others came to America. Bertha, FC, and Emile Johanna. She was married to Johann Daniel Fiss, in 1866 in Germany and they had one son, Franz in 1867. Johann died in 1870 in Germany. Her 2nd husband was Carl Ferdinand Bonness in 1871 in Germany and they had one son, Paul Max Bonness in 1872 - who came to America and died in 1932 in Archer, NE. Carl died in Germany in 1874. Mathilde then came to America. She married Henry F Schroeder in 1874 in Wahoo. They had seven children: Rosa, Mary, Julia, Max, Frank, Elsie, & Esther.
