A memorial service was held October 22nd at the First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Michigan for William James Bird, age 76, of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Mr. Bird was born October 9, 1909 in West Virginia and died on October 18th at his home.
Mr. Bird was a retired executive for Chrysler Corporation. He joined Chrysler in 1934 and became sales manager of the Dodge Division in 1956 and vice-president of sales for the Plymouth Division in 1964. He retired in 1973 as vice-president of Chrysler’s Leasing Division.
Mr. Bird was active in the Boy Scouts, serving on the executive board of the Detroit Area Council and winning the Scouts’ Silver Antelope Award.
In 1931, Mr. Bird graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in engineering. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, University of Michigan Alumni Club of Greater Detroit, Economic Club of Detroit, Orchard Lake Country Club, Detroit Athletic Club and Senior Men’s Club of Birmingham. He had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1945 and was a former member of Bloomfield Hills Country Club.
Survivors include a son, David C. Bird of West Bloomfield, Michigan; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret B. Hooker of Lexington, Mississippi and Mrs. Mary Louise Stubbs of Troy, Michigan; a sister, Mrs. Katherine Dow of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and nine grandchildren.
Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery in Ann Arbor, Michigan and memorial tributes may be sent to the Hammett Youth Fund, First United Methodist Church. Lexington, Mississippi.
