Elliott and his twin brother, Elmo, were born in Dilworth, Gonzales County, the sons of Samuel and Vidalia McCullough Schwab. Vidalia died during the flu epidemic of 1918/1919 when the twins were age 9. During their youth, the twins were raised by older married sisters; their father traveled extensively in his occupation as a ginner/mill builder. Elliott graduated from Nixon High School in 1925. His occupation for over 30-years was as a civil service aircraft inspector and Elliott was sent to Pearl Harbor in that capacity shortly after the beginning of WWII. Later, he was transferred to first Kelly AFB/San Antonio, and then to Ellington AFB/Houston. Elliott retired in the late 1960s due to a medical condition and was ill for many years before his death. Despite his illness, Elliott was a loving father and devoted to his wife and family.

Elliott Schwab was survived by his wife, Myrtia Lee Schwab; two daughters: Diana Schwab (Dearing), Betty Schwab (Smith); three sons: Elliott "Buddy" Schwab, Jr., Danny Neal Schwab, Jerry Lee Schwab.
Grandchildren: Jimmy Allen Smith, Shelly Diane Smith (Batson), Michael David Smith, John Glen Dearing, Bradford Lee Dearing, Carole Denise Dearing.
Eight great-grandchildren: Amber; Justine, Olivia, Kady, Dustin, Morgan, Austin, Madichen.
