Peter Meriwether Boyden was born in Cismont, Albemarle county, Virginia, the youngest son of the Rev. Ebenezer Boyden and his wife Mary Sheffey. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1872 and attended the Episcopal Seminary of Virginia, graduating in 1877. His jolly demeanor as a child earned him the family nickname of "Merry Peterwether".

1897-1907, Rector of St. Paul's Epis. Church, Olney, Maryland

1913-1925 the Rev. P. M. Boyden was rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Poplar Springs, Maryland. The Rev. P. M. Boyden assumed the rectorship in 1913 and remained until his death in 1925. One member recalls how he would come from New Market on Saturday afternoon for the Guild meeting; spend the night at a parishioner's home, then have the service on Sunday morning.

May 3, 1925: Rev. Peter M. BOYDEN, New Market, dies at Frederick City Hospital after being struck by automobile at Ridgeville, Maryland while crossing the road.
