Don married Betty Lucas in Oklahoma City. They were married 58 years until her death in 2007. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He dedicated much of his spare time, when not with his family, to his favorite charity Operation Christmas Child. He coordinated the distribution of more than 200,000 shoe box gifts to needy children around the world. He served as a deacon and was a long time member of Northwest Baptist Church. Don was employed by American Fidelity before founding his own business, Bloom Oilfield Electric, where he served as President for nearly 40 years. Don's college education was interrupted early in life but he persevered to attain his goal by graduating from Southern Nazarene University when he was 65 years old.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and wife. He is survived by his 7 children, 20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Carol & John McLaughlin, Justin & Sharla McLaughlin, Avery & Collier of Bartlesville, OK; Drs. Bryan & Rebecca McLaughlin of Cambridge, MA; Gayle & Steve Love, Erik & Nicole Love, Michelle; Donna & Jerry Gray, Dr. Jeremy Gray of Cleveland, OH, Kallye & Matt Klem, Shelby, Kimberly Gray & fiancé Scott Gleaves, Nick; Richard & Janet Bloom, Kayla, Courtney, Kyle; David & Ginna Bloom, Ryan & Alisha Bloom, Katie; Brad & Julia Bloom, Brennan, Breanna, and Brynn of Dallas, TX; Rod & Julie Bloom, Ethan, Jett, Hudson, and Ella; brothers Gene & JoAnn, Bob & Jeri, sister-in-laws Leanne Suhre, Helen & Jerry Gill, and many nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be at Mercer-Adams, Wednesday, October 7, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral service on Thursday, October 8 at 10:00 am at Northwest Baptist Church, 3030 NW 23rd St, OKC with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
