Richard "Dick" Earl Metcalf, 76, passed away September 29, 2009, in his home in the arms of his loving wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and many other family members.

Dick was born on January 19, 1933, to James and Roberta (Phillips) Metcalf.

Dick graduated from Maumee High School in 1951, and one year later married his high-school sweetheart Barbara (Campbell), on January 19, 1952. They enjoyed 57 years of happiness.

Dick was employed for 42 years by Norwalk Trucking/Central Transport and Consolidated Freightways, taking them to Angola, Indiana in 1981.

Upon his retirement in 1993, Dick and Barb moved back home to Ohio to enjoy their children and grandchildren.

Dick so loved his family and was a member of the Toledo Area Bicyclists. At 71 years young, he completed a 100 mile ride with a 17.2 mph average. At age 72, Dick won the senior age bracket of the Maumee Valley Tri-Adventure Race (bike, hike, and canoe).

Dick is survived by his adoring wife, Barbara; children, Rick (Linda), Sherry (Rick) Wise, Robin (Robin) Casida, Jeff (Diana), 20 grandchildren, and 8 great-grand-children, brothers Ted (Maddie), Jerry (Shirley), Rolla (Edie) Metcalf; sister, Myrtle (Homer) Smith, brother-in-law, Cliff (Marcia) Campbell, and many special nieces and nephews.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, James and Roberta (Phillips) Metcalf; son, Mark Metcalf, and brother, Tommy Metcalf.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 1st at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee. Funeral services will be held on Friday at Community of Christ Lutheran Church, 6517 Finzel Rd., Whitehouse at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Roth Cemetery in Monclova.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dick's honor to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.
