THE PARIS NEWS, Wed., Nov. 29, 1995, p.1A. '(Picture) Dr. A. B. White Dies - Dr. A.B. White, 91, 555-31st SE, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church in Paris, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 1995, in McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Sidney Young officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The body will lie at the church Thursday for an hour prior to the funeral time.

Dr. White first came to Paris in 1938 and served as pastor for seven years before joining the administrative team of the Baptist General Convention of Texas as Associate Executive Secretary in 1945. In 1947 he became pastor of East Grand Baptist Church in Dallas but continued to play a role as part of the Baptist General Convention, especially in the area of church growth and building. He was instrumental in founding the Church Loan Association in 1951 which became the Texas Baptist Church Loan Corporation that has proved to be one of the greatest resources of Texas Baptist mission. He served as chief executive officer of the corporation for 17 years. As of June 30, 1995, the corporation has provided loans for 2,086 churches.

Dr. White was presented the first Pioneer Award for Service in Missions by the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation on Nov. 5, 1995, in a special ceremony at First Baptist Church in Paris. He became pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Dallas after retiring from the Church Loan Corporation. During his pastorate there he completed two major building programs for the church. He retired again at the age of 80 and returned to Paris where he was again a beloved and active part of the First Baptist Church. He had taught the A.B. White Sunday School Class until earlier this year. During retirement he was active in ranching and had been a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Born May 21, 1904, in Taylorsville, KY, Dr. White was a son of Thomas and Annette Nowlin White. He was orphaned as a young boy and reared by his older sister, Nova Murphy. He attended Bethel College in Russellville, KY and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Additional studies were done at Oklahoma Baptist University where he later served on the Board of Trustees for a number of years.

He married Frances Cook July 18, 1927, in Taylorsville, KY. She died Feb. 20, 1988. On Nov. 5, 1988, he married Kathryn Phillips in Paris. Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Frank and Betty White of Paris; four grandchildren, Rebecca Annette Taylor of Carrollton, Brenda Fay Evans of Bowie, Alba Ben White of Paris and William Russell White of Tyler; six great-grandchildren, Jeff and Julie Taylor of Carrollton, Austin and Emily Evans of Bowie and Abbie and Bailey White of Paris; two sisters, Ora White and Rena Drowl, both of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Dr. A.F. White, Ben White, Bill White, Randy Taylor, Dr. Robert Evans, and Dr. Bert Strom. Honorary bearers will be members of the Dr. A.B. White Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. If desired, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Paris, or to the A.B. White New Church Fund of the Texas Baptist Convention, c/o First Baptist Church, 207 Church St., Paris, TX 75460.'
