Maurice William Bakkila Sr., 66, Brainerd, passed away on Sept. 5, 2008, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. He was born in Brainerd on March 29, 1942, to Morris and Elaine Bakkila. He later fell in love with and married Vicki Jean O'Day on May 29, 1961. Together they had six beautiful children.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; sons, Maurice W. Bakkila Jr. (Marianne), Robert L. Bakkila (Denise); daughters, Debra K. Carlson and Rachel E. Bakkila. He has 18 wonderful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins whom he adored.
Also survived by his mother, Elaine Neugebauer; his sister, Sherry Krushe; and his brother, Mark Neugebauer.
He will also be missed by man's best friend, Abby, his dear Jack Russell Terrier.
He was preceded in death by his fathers, Morris Bakkila and Wilfred Neugebauer; son, John A. Bakilla; and his daughter, Georgina M. Braverman.
Services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Brainerd with Pastor Ron Keysor officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Brainerd. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
