My great, great, great, grandfather, Otha, was born to Theotha and Jane Caldwell Tharp of Halifax, Virginia. Otha was about 9 years old when his father died and about 13 years old when his mother died. Some information suggests he moved with his brothers and half brothers to Lincoln County, Tennessee when he was about 18, in about 1821.
In 1824 he married Cynthia Harrison of South Carolina, daughter of John Harrison and Sara Middleton, and had the following children:

They are listed in the 1850 Panola Co., Mississippi census. Otha was about 25 years older than Mary Jane. She cared for his younger children from his previous marriage and had the following children with Otha, all born in Mississippi:

She died in 1914 at age 86 at Travis, Falls Co., Texas.
